Apple's iPod mini is poised for a global launch on July 24th, as the company attempts to stay ahead of the pack of competitors crowding into the music-player market. Though still No. 1 among digital-download fans, the iPod is feeling some pressure from Sony's Network Walkman.

Apple Computer said Wednesday that it would end the waiting and launch its iPod mini digital music player around the world on July 24.
The release ends a three-month delay of the iPod mini's debut outside the United States. In March, Apple said it would postpone the mini player's release because of stronger-than-expected domestic demand and slow production of the device's hard drives.

"We had planned supply to last through late June, [and] now we expect to be able to catch up with demand," said Greg Joswiak, Apple vice president of hardware product and worldwide product marketing.

Apple said the iPod mini would retail internationally for local equivalents of its U.S. price of $249. The music player is capable of holding 1,000 songs on its 4-gigabyte hard drive.

Joswiak said Apple has seen demand grow for the iPod mini over the past four months but would not give an update on its pre-release order figures, citing a company earnings update scheduled for July 14. In March, Apple said it had received 100,000 pre-release orders for the iPod mini.

Apple shares were down 37 cents to $30.62 in Wednesday trading.

BEIJING, July 8 (Xinhuanet) -- Apple has said that it would end the waiting and launch its iPod mini digital music player around the world on July 24, according to CRIENGLISH.com.

The popular music player is capable of holding up to 1,000 songs on its 4-gigabyte hard drive.

Apple said it would be retailed internationally for local equivalents of its US price of $249.

The release ends a three-month delay of the iPod mini's debut outside the United States.

In March, Apple said it would postpone the mini player's release because of stronger-than-expected domestic demand and slow production of the device's hard drives.

The device will compete with music players produced by firms such as Sony, Rio and iRiver.

Apple's iPod is the most popular digital music player in the world and has more than 50% of the digital music player market.
